Environmental Sustainability Educational Tour in London Sample Itinerary

If you are a teacher or professor of environmental sustainability, or a similar subject, then Anglo Educational Tours offers you with a fantastic opportunity to help your students understand first-hand the importance of a sustainable future. The following outlines a sample itinerary of an educational tour that focuses on sustainability.

Arrive in the UK, transfer from airport to accommodation by private motor coach
Orientation session with Anglo Educational Services staff
Guided walking tour of Architectural and Historical London
Upon arrival in London you and your students will be met by your private coach, which will take you to your centrally located hotel. As check-in is often not until 3pm, arrangements will have already been made with the hotel for you to leave your luggage in the secure baggage area. A pack containing maps plus any pre-purchased travel cards will be left for the group leader upon arrival.
The arrival orientation session by Anglo Educational Tours Staff will be held at the Anglo Educational Study Centre. This session will take your student through basic health and safety in London, how to use public transport including the tube and buses, as well as offering them with helpful hints for their stay. It will also give you and your students a chance to ask any questions you may have.
Following their orientation session, your students will board their coach for a 2-3 hour guided tour of London with a knowledgeable private guide. During this time they will learn about not only the history of London but also the architecture, and how particular buildings have been constructed in order to make them as environmentally friendly as possible. The coach will drop you back at your accommodation where you will be able to check into your rooms.
Visit to the Science Museum
Overview Lecture on British Life and Culture with a focus on The Environment and Sustainability
Your students’ visit to the Science Museum, located in Kensington, will focus on two exhibitions; the Energy Hall and The Atmosphere Gallery which is a novel and interesting way to understand the climate – including the science behind it, what is happening to it now and what may happen to the climate in the future.
Your students’ visit will help put into context their afternoon lecture. This will give you an opportunity to deliver a lecture to them based on British Life and culture with a particular focus on the environment and sustainability.
Visit to The John Lewis Partnership
Visit with Social Enterprise and sustainability charity focusing on the assistance that they offer to businesses to improve their green credentials
The UK government views the John Lewis Partnership as the most socially responsible retailer. Your students’ visit to one of their stores will include a guided tour with a focus on the work that they do towards protecting the environment.
In the afternoon, after the visit to the Partnership, your students will have the opportunity to meet with a representative from a charity which promotes, supports and networks both community-based initiatives and businesses for a greener, healthier and more sustainable London. Their meeting will cover the charity’s work with businesses and the community and will enable you to see the work that London as a city is putting into sustainability.
Visit to the Thames Barrier with guided tour
Visit to The Crystal
Visit to the Natural History Museum
Beginning your day in East London at the Thames Barrier, your students will visit the Information at the Barrier. Firstly, the group will have a guided tour of the Information Centre. The talk will cover topics such as the history of the River Thames and the risk of flooding in London, as well as describing the environment and wildlife of the river. Your students will have the opportunity to explore the area and see how the barrier plays a vital role in protecting London from flooding.
Once they have left the barrier they will make their way to The Crystal. The Crystal is one of the world’s most sustainable buildings and it is a sustainable cities initiative by Siemens exploring the future of cities. It is home to the world’s largest exhibition focused on urban sustainability, as well as being a world-class centre for dialogue, discovery and learning. After visiting The Crystal, your students will make their way from East to West London. Here they will visit the Natural History Museum. Their independent visit will incorporate galleries such as ecology, today and tomorrow (impact of humans on the earth), The Wildlife garden, and Restless surface.
Visit with a representative from the London Sustainability Exchange
Visit to the Faraday Museum
Lecture at University College London
This morning your students will meet with a representative from the London Sustainability Exchange. The LSX provides organisations and networks of individuals with the motivation, knowledge, and connections they need to put sustainability into practice.
Following their morning visit they will visit the Faraday Museum, located at the Royal Institution, where they will partake in a self-guided visit, and to round off their day they will be visiting one of the top-ranking UK universities- UCL. Here they will attend a guest lecture focusing on sustainable entrepreneurship.
Visit to BedZed
BedZed is the UK’s first ever eco-community. It is located just outside of London so you and your students will be travelling via train. The development is designed to use only energy from renewable sources generated on site and it is a fascinating example of sustainable living. Your students will tour the visitors centre, which charts the construction of the development. After visiting BedZed you will all return to London and have free time to explore before your departure in the morning.
Transfer from accommodations to airport
